Inspired by a sketchbook drawing of the artist in her big wool coat. This image is repeated through Clementine’s work; the image of the figure with the umbrella or walking away is one the artist returns to time and time again. Kūkyo is Japanese word/phrase that describes a void feeling. It’s not sad, but perhaps empty. “My closest family have recently had some illnesses that have required a lot of energy and mental strength to battle with. Walking often brings me a sense of time alone but that isn’t necessarily happy or sad time, it’s just static time when I don’t have to think. That’s what this phrase means for me and what this title represents.” Please note that the image in the frame is mocked up for visual representation purposes only. This image will arrive unframed.
