Kyphi Vert is a co-distillation — vetiver distilled directly onto gurjun balsam, producing aromatic compounds that neither material creates alone. This is not a blend. When two botanicals are distilled together, heat and steam generate new molecules at the interface, yielding a material with qualities impossible to achieve by simply mixing the finished oils. The result here is vetiver taken somewhere it has never been: darker, more resinous, genuinely oud-like. The vetiver is immediately recognisable — earthy, rooty, green — but the gurjun co-distillation introduces a remarkable labdanum-like warmth and a cinnamic nuance reminiscent of methyl cinnamate. This combination pushes the material into territory that recalls Guerlain's Djedi (1927), Jacques Guerlain's legendary vetiver pushed to its smoky, animalic extreme. There is genuine oud-like depth here. This is, effectively, a prêt-à-porter attar. Use it wherever you want vetiver with ritualistic weight. It bridges Western vetiver compositions and Middle Eastern oud traditions without synthetics. Layer it with rose for an instant oriental, or let it stand alone as a base that needs nothing else.
