The class quickly became popular on the Reading hauling freight and of course, anthracite. Reading saved four of the T1s for their "Reading Rambles" excursions in the 1960s and all four survive today with one fully restored to operation and another not far behind.The T1's fame grew after the Reading itself faded with locomotives being used for the American Freedom Train in 1975-76 and numerous excursions in the decade that followed.
