Mona Lisa was painted at the beginning of the 16th century by the illustrious Leonardo da Vinci. Not only is it the most famous painting in history, it has also established itself as the undisputed icon of art in general. Upon the death of the Great Master, it passed directly from the hands of Da Vinci to those of Francis I, King of France, thus becoming a heritage asset of the French Crown.
