In an article published in 2015 (DOI: 10.15621/ ijphy/2015/v2i5/78219), patients were asked if they were more confident and comfortable in their provider’s appearance when they wore a white coat over professional or casual dress. Results were overwhelmingly in support of white coats! 91.1% stated they were more comfortable and 89.0% stated they were more confident with their provider dressed in a white coat. One thing I observe consistently is the lack of credentialing or titles embroidered on scrubs, and definitely an absence of lab coats. In my observation, less than 1% of aesthetic providers wear lab coats routinely. These same offices confide in me that they feel their patients don’t respect their medical judgement. Their dosing recommendations aren’t being taken seriously. They also struggle with confidence during these patient encounters. Meanwhile, they are dressed in unmarked scrubs, or street clothes which reflects exactly what the receptionist, or medical assistant is wearing.
