Her journey with collage began in high school and has since evolved into an exploration of visual texture and the use of print as pattern and color. Drawing inspiration from storytelling and the impressionist and post-impressionist movements, her work portrays a variety of subjects. She builds value and detail by layering paper media to create depth and visual interest. Black has exhibited widely, including the President’s Art Show and multiple student exhibitions at Salt Lake Community College, the Arizona Aqueous Show in Tubac, Arizona, and numerous local and statewide exhibitions in Utah. She has also expanded into plein air collage, participating in events such as the Wasatch Plein Air Paradise Festival in Midway, Utah.
