A sculpted female figure rises from the body of this striking Zsolnay pitcher, her form wrapped in the deep, shifting purple of the manufactory's legendary Eosin glaze. As light moves across the surface, the iridescence turns and deepens, giving the piece the metallic luminosity that has made Zsolnay Eosin a favourite of collectors worldwide. The pitcher was designed by Sándor Apáti Abt and Lajos Mack, two of the sculptors who defined Zsolnay's Art Nouveau golden age at the turn of the twentieth century. Their sensuous, flowing figural style found its perfect match in Eosin, whose luster brings every curve of the modelled form to life. Introduced by Vilmos Zsolnay in 1893, the Eosin technique remains a closely guarded secret of the manufactory in Pécs. At 40 cm tall, this is a commanding statement piece as much a collectible work of art as a decorative object.
