I have a passion for Laherte Frères. Located in the somewhat overlooked commune of Chavot-Courcourt in the Coteaux Sud d'Èpernay, the estate is fully biodynamic, and Laherte's particular talent remains with the Pinot Meunier variety, but the estate crafts wonderful Champagnes from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir as well—as is the case with this Les Empreintes Extra Brut. The 2018 Extra Brut Les Empreintes, a 50/50 blend of Chardonnay from Les Chemins d'Èpernay and Pinot Noir from Les Rouges Maisons, is a gorgeous sparkler. Soaring from the glass with tangerine peel, spice, pear and pastry. This is one of the more overt, layered wines in the range. All the elements are so well balanced, allowing for the wine to be cellared for years to come (if desired). The Empreintes is surely the most pleasurable of the Laherte lineup. Dosage is 2 grams per liter. Disgorged November 2023. 12.5% ABV
