I have a passion for Laherte Frères. Located in the somewhat overlooked commune of Chavot-Courcourt in the Coteaux Sud d'Èpernay, the estate is fully biodynamic, and Laherte's particular talent remains with the Pinot Meunier variety. Normally playing third fiddle in typical Champagne blends, Meunier takes center stage here, leading to incredible results. The Ultradition Extra-Brut bottling from Laherte is a beautifully crafted expression of terroir. Meunier dominated, with additions from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, and vinified in stainless steel and oak. The wine showcased both freshness and complexity, with a vibrant, mineral-driven profile. The first time a gave my wife a glass, she just stated "Wow, that's a great champagne!" The nose unfolds with orchard fruits such as yellow apple and pear, alongside grapefruit zest, white flowers, and brioche. The palate is full of pear, lemon and almond, with a persistent mousse and a lingering, clean finish. Disgorged March 2024 12.5% ABV
