Laila was inspired by a walk across the Somerset Levels, where I spotted a long-crested wading bird moving through the landscape. Lapwings, also known as peewits, can look simply b lack and white from a distance. Up close, their backs reveal a striking iridescent sheen of green and purple. Painted in beautiful blues, greens and purples, Laila glows against a glorious golden backdrop.
