When Lali came to live at The Sylom Children Home back in 2015, she was only 10, but had already been a slave for two years. At first, she thought she was still a slave, but when the caretakers spoke to her with kindness and gentleness, she realized something was different. They brought her food and clean clothes, listened to her story, comforted her when she cried, and told her she was free. Lali was finally safe. She had a lot of pain to work through, but Lali loved going to school, making friends, and reading books. Last year, when an older girl in our tailoring program named Sanchi took Lali under her wing, Lali really started coming to life. "When I saw Sanchi make something beautiful out of pieces of fabric, I was inspired to do the same," Lali says. Now, at age 15, Lali is eagerly awaiting a vocational training scholarship. "I'm so thankful for every opportunity I've had here, and I'm dreaming of the day I get to start my training to become a tailor like Sanchi." When you sponsor Lali, you provide for her basic needs and vocational training for 12 months at $125 per month. At the end of this training, she'll have everything she needs to become successful and independent, and like hundreds of other graduates she hopes to give back to provide opportunities for other rescued kids.
