Today, over 50% of the new cars sold on the market come with Push-to-start (PTS) button instead of a key with blade which you need to insert and turn to start. Majority of the newer vehicles are equipped with immobilizer systems to prevent theft. The PTS vehicles use radio frequencies to authenticate the car key, alternatively a RFID transponder if the key battery is depleted and emergency start is required. All those systems responsible for the key authentification are usually spread around the vehicle in a hard to reach locations and use high speed data signals over CAN network instead of analog signals to communicate.
