*New wicks* 5 cords of 12" lengths of cotton wicking. Each cord can be pulled apart into 4 smaller strands. Let wicks soak in oil for 10-15 minutes or so before burning. --- NOTE: Since many people are not familiar with the practical aspects of maintaining an oil lamp, the Hermitage of the Holy Cross has compiled a list of suggestions that has proven to be very helpful in establishing and keeping this pious custom.
