Also known as King's Tea, this tea was named after a respected concubine who was particularly fond of it. As her child name was Lan Er (Blue Child), she was later given the title of Lan Gui Ren (Blue Honored Person). Lan Gui Ren is a tightly rolled green wulong, coated in ginseng powder. This gives it a wonderful sweetness, that coats the throat and adds a wonderful energetic and emotionally uplifting and clarifying element. Many smokers enjoy this tea, as the ginseng helps coat the throat, making subsequently inhaled smoke sweeter and less harsh. The energizing nature of the ginseng also helps counteract any potential couch-lock that might be the result from smoking, making them a perfect pair. Unlike coffee, the energizing effects of this tea are calm and relaxed, rather than jittery and nervous (no offense intended to my coffee-loving friends). The Fujian versions tend to be larger grain, which tend to last for more brews, but lack the subtlety of the smaller grain Taiwanese version. The lower grades are fruiter and more approachable, while the higher grades tend to be more subtle and nuanced in flavor. Price is per 50 grams/1.76 ounces
