Lapsang Souchong 正山小种 - 20g A classic Lapsang Souchong from Masu 麻粟, one of the highest villages in Tongmuguan. Carefully crafted by master Gong with generations of experience, this tea expresses the character of its high-mountain origin with depth, sweetness, and a distinctive pine-smoked fragrance. Unlike the heavily smoked Lapsang Souchong often associated with the name, this tea carries its smoke with balance. Beneath the gentle pinewood aroma are layers of dried fruit, honey, warm wood and a subtle sweetness that lingers in the mouth. The liquor is smooth and full-bodied, with a clean finish and the distinctive mountain character of Tongmuguan. The Story of Lapsang Souchong Lapsang Souchong is considered the first black tea in the world and originated in Tongmuguan, Wuyishan, Fujian. Traditionally, the tea was dried and smoked over pinewood, giving it the unmistakable aroma that has come to define Lapsang Souchong around the world. Masu Village lies deep within Tongmuguan, surrounded by forests, bamboo and mountain mist. Its high elevation and cool, humid conditions allow the tea leaves to develop slowly, contributing to the depth and sweetness found in the finished tea. The traditional smoking process further layers the tea with the resinous fragrance of local pinewood, creating a character that is both earthy and refined. For this particular tea, we sourced from Master Gong, whose experience allows the smoke to complement rather than overpower the tea. The result is a Lapsang Souchong that is unmistakably traditional, yet remarkably balanced.
