Incentive Create large, detailed flowers using contrasting paint and crayon. -Line-Shape-Space-Colour-Texture Supplies A3 card/paper Art paper Paint Small sponges Medium sized paint brush Old large paint brush Lead pencil Crayons/Oil pastels Scissors Craft / PVA Glue Lesson 1 Sponge background on A3 card/paper with cool coloured paints (shades of blue and green). Carefully dab and scrape these colours with slight overlapping to a textured background. Allow to dry. 2 Draw two large flowers on art paper with lead pencil, both the same style. Demonstrate different shapes of petals eg, long thin, round and wide, heart shaped, round edged, wavy edged etc. 3 Paint both flowers the same colour. These will be painted in a warm contrasting colour to the background (pink, orange or yellow). Allow to dry. 4 Trace lead lines heavily in a highlighting warm colour using crayons or oils pastels. The highlighting colour should be darker than the painted flower colour eg red or dark orange. 5 Use same crayon colour to shade around petals and to highlight centre of each flower. 6 Use black crayon to draw stamen coming out from the centre of each flower. 7 Use an old paint brush lightly dabbed into white paint and tap over the centre to form pollen. 8 Repeat this with purple or red paint to add more dimension to flower. 9 When dry, cut out each flower and paste onto background with very slight overlapping.
