Overview Family: Cobitidae & Botiidae Loaches are energetic, intelligent bottom-dwelling fish native to Asia and parts of Europe. Commonly kept species in Australia include Kuhli Loaches, Yoyo Loaches, Zebra Loaches, and Clown Loaches. They’re known for their playful behaviour, social interactions, and habit of sifting through the substrate in search of food. Most loaches thrive in groups, prefer soft substrates, and appreciate low lighting with plenty of shelter. Some species remain small, while others grow large and require long-term planning.
