A sterling silver and cut crystal large size scent bottle with internal secondary bottle. This very high quality and unusual piece appears from the outside to be a clean and beautifully made large size scent bottle. However, once the gilt lined, hinged lid is opened, inside is another squat, cut crystal bottle, complete with the original stopper, which acts as the stopper for the main bottle. A most ingenious design that is both practical, and unobtrusive on the overall aesthetic design of the bottle from the exterior. The large sterling lid is clean in its design, and features a broad and strong hinge to the back of the bottle. The crystal body is thick and has a stepped edge with two areas of double cut banding through the glass. The base has a classic 'star' cut pattern into it. The clean and masculine feel to the bottle will lend itself to fit in the most modern of bath or dressing rooms. This is remarkable being that this is a Victorian piece of English design. For this period, this bottle is very understated. The piece has a full set of English hallmarks to the collar of the bottle, and again inside the lid. It was made in London, England, by the highly regarded and long serving silversmith John Grinsall & Sons in 1893. The condition of the bottle is excellent throughout.
