Its porous structure provides excellent airflow around the roots while retaining enough moisture to support steady, controlled hydration. This size fraction (2-8 mm) is ideal for mixing into aroid substrates, improving drainage and oxygen availability without compacting over time. The hard volcanic structure does not break down, making it a durable and stable component for long-term cultivation. Black lava is pH-stable, inert, and free of added nutrients, allowing full control over fertilisation, EC, and pH through your watering routine. It is suitable for both organic-based mixes and fully mineral substrates, and works well in traditional top-watering setups as well as semi-hydro or hybrid systems.
