Is this the best lavender ever? A neat, compact variety with shimmering silvery foliage and indigo-blue flowers which radiate an unbeatable perfume on warm, sunny days. The key dif ference between 'Hidcote Improved' and 'Hidcote' is its colour retention; 'Improved' holds onto its flower colour with a vice-like grip, refusing to fade even as autumn rolls around. This variety builds upon the brilliance of 'Hidcote' in other areas, too, offering an even longer flowering period than its forebear, spanning all the way from May to September (and often even beyond that). Perfect for borders, pots and path edges; plant near your seating area to fully appreciate the sumptuous scent (which is far headier than with the original 'Hidcote'). Award-winning 'Hidcote' lavender was first bred in the 1930s by plant collector Lawrence Johnson at Hidcote Manor, in Oxfordshire, where it is still carefully tended to this day.
