The Layens Frame Extractor is HillCo's purpose-built machine for Layens hive beekeepers. It handles 3 Layens frames per load — or 3 deep Langstroth frames, or 6 medium/shallow Langstroth frames — using tangential extraction, meaning you extract each side of the frame separately. It runs the same PowerMaxx drive system and EZ-Drain tank floor as the rest of the HillCo Maxx lineup, in a 21" tank that ships by UPS or FedEx Ground. Available in Motorized and Hand Crank. The motorized version runs HillCo's 1/4 HP PowerMaxx bottom-referenced drive. The hand crank version uses the same tank and reel with a manual crank instead. Key Features Layens and Langstroth Compatible — Extracts 3 Layens frames, 3 deep Langstroth frames, or 6 medium/shallow Langstroth frames. All tangential — each side of the frame is extracted separately. 1/4 HP PowerMaxx Motor (Motorized variant) — 5:1 ratio worm-drive gearbox. The same drive system HillCo uses across the full Maxx extractor lineup. EZ-Drain Sloped Floor — HillCo-exclusive sloped tank bottom channels honey toward the gate. The gate sits slightly below the tank floor — complete drain into a 5-gallon bucket without tilting. 22-Gauge 304 Stainless Steel — Food-grade tank and components throughout. Greaseable Lower Bearing — Keeps the reel running smooth long-term. Rubber feet protect your floor. 5-Gallon Bucket Clearance — Standard bucket and strainer fit directly below the honey gate. Designed and Assembled in USA — Final assembly done at HillCo's facility. 4/10 Warranty — Motor, gearbox, controller, and wiring for 4 years. Tank, legs, lower bearing, reel, and all other components for 10 years. Ships UPS or FedEx Ground — No freight required. Tangential vs Radial Extraction Tangential extraction pulls honey from one side of the frame at a time. You load the frames, spin one side, flip them, then spin the other side. It takes more handling per frame than radial extraction but works well for Layens frames, which are wider than standard Langstroth frames and don't fit radial reels. Seasonal Use Use the Layens Frame Extractor during your summer and early fall honey harvest. Extract promptly after pulling frames to preserve honey quality.
