Released in 1992, the Snow Peak Layout System Simulation board is not just a moderately interesting piece of ephemera, but a window to the introduction of car camping to Japan and the rise of Snow Peak's modularity. Customers would purchase a copy of the Simulation Board, go home and using the peel-and-stick pieces lay out their ideal campsite. Then, returning to the store, the customer would work with the sales rep to finalize the design. They would be able to purchase their campsite there on the spot, or place an order for home delivery. This model not only allowed for guided autonomy, but for people to understand how the Layout System worked and the benefits it offered.
