Limited edition purple/black splatter vinyl. Leaching is a post-goth/post-punk act that began as a solo Covid lockdown project of musician and audio engineer Steven Smith in Melbourne. Originally conceived as an instrumental project where the question "would this fit over John Carpenter's 'The Thing' helicopter intro scene?" was the main filter, Smith believed the material felt unfinished without vocal parts and promptly used this as an excuse to write stream-of-conscious lyrics which, in true gothic tradition, vary between vitriolic self-deprecation and discontent with the wider world. The album is highlighted by a cold 80s production style and employ equipment and production techniques used by Prince, Kate Bush, and New Order in their seminal works. The songs have drawn comparison to goth-era The Cure, Joy Division, early New Order, Broadcast, Siouxsie and the Banshees and Rowland S. Howard, as well as the aforementioned John Carpenter's soundtrack work. Vale Steve Smith 1981 - 2022.
