Hinoki, Japanese cypress, is pressed into a sheet of washi paper rather than rolled into a stick - a leaf you can leave on a shelf or tuck into a book for days before you ever ligh t it, the scent releasing slowly rather than all at once. Woodsy, soothing, the smell of the forests that have supplied Japanese building timber for centuries. Kunjudo hand-crafts each leaf on Awaji Island, where the Fukunaga family have made incense since 1893. Once lit, the fragrance holds for close to an hour.
