Trusting can be scary. There are so many things in life we are called to do that require trust. The first time we take our kids out to drive, we are willing to start small and drive in a parking lot or back road. Over time, we build up a reserve of trust and allow them to drive down the street. Eventually, we give the car over to them and say, “Take it on the highway.” We may not realize it at the time, but we are showing them we trust them and teaching them to trust themselves. This is true in so many different areas of our lives. Whether it’s starting a new job or taking a major role in a project, we need to have the trust of others to start it. Sometimes the task is saying, “You have this,” knowing it may not turn out the way we hoped, but we have to let them go and try at some point. In the end, it’s not just our trust in them, but their trust in themselves that we know they can do it.
