In Aymara, “Suti” means name. In Spanish “Sana” means healed. As a woman leaves a trafficking situation, she often adopts a new name as part of her healed identity. SutiSana offers empowering employment to survivors of human trafficking in a healing-centered environment in Bolivia. When a woman joins SutiSana, she receives a liveable wage and full benefits including health insurance and a retirement plan. She and her children are supported through community, and she is given opportunities to continually grow professionally - learning to sew, create new designs, and eventually teaching sewing and mentoring other survivors. Experienced artisans are trained in administrative positions, moving towards a future when SutiSana can be survivor-led.SutiSana also invests in breaking the cycle of exploitation and preventing future trafficking by investing in educational support for the children of survivors and vulnerable youth in precarious communities.
