Cellerini has been making leather goods in a first-floor atelier on Via del Sole, in central Florence, since the late 1950s. Alongside the bags and small leather accessories that are the workshop's main work are a few quiet desk objects - and this is one of them. A leather mousepad. A single rectangular panel of fine calfskin, smooth on the working surface so the mouse glides without resistance, hand-stitched at the edge, and made to lie flat on a desk. In time, the leather wears a faint, paler oval where the mouse most often sits - the kind of mark that comes from years of the same small motion.
