Lech 500ML is a Polish European pale lager brewed in Poznań at 4.8% ABV, sold in a 500ml bottle. Brewed by Lech Browary Wielkopolski — one of Poland's largest and most recognized breweries — this lager uses a proprietary yeast strain and two classic Polish hop varieties, giving it a distinctly regional character among mass-market European lagers. Quick Facts: ABV: 4.8% | Origin: Wielkopolska, Poland | Style: European Pale Lager | Brewery: Lech Browary Wielkopolski (Kompania Piwowarska / Asahi Group) Production & Heritage Lech Browary Wielkopolski operates out of Poznań in the Wielkopolska region of western Poland and is part of Kompania Piwowarska, itself a subsidiary of Japan's Asahi Group Holdings. The brewery uses pale malt processed at Poland's largest malting plant — a facility built on French malting technology with a capacity of 50,000 tons of malt per year. Lech Premium is brewed in the classic Pilsner method with a balanced addition of Marynka and Lubelski hops, two traditional Polish hop varieties prized for their floral and herbal qualities. A proprietary yeast strain developed specifically for this beer contributes to its consistent flavor profile across batches. Tasting Notes Aroma: The nose opens with sweet pale malt and dry cracker-like grain. Subtle floral hop notes emerge underneath, carrying a gentle herbal quality from the Lubelski and Marynka hop additions. Taste: On the palate, malt leads with a bittersweet grain character that defines the entry. Mid-palate, refreshing hops push forward with mild bitterness, balancing the cereal sweetness. The overall impression is of a straightforward, malt-driven Eurolager. Finish: The finish is dry and clean, tapering quickly with light cracker malt lingering briefly. Bitterness remains restrained throughout, leaving a crisp close. How to Drink Lech Serve well chilled — between 3°C and 6°C — in a Pilsner glass or straight from the bottle on a warm afternoon. Its light body and malt-forward profile make it a natural session beer. Michelada: The malty sweetness holds up well against lime juice, hot sauce, and Worcestershire, adding body without competing. Shandy: Mixed with lemonade, the dry cracker-grain character provides a clean backbone that keeps the drink from turning cloying. Beer Cocktail (Radler-style): Blended with grapefruit juice, Lech's mild bitterness amplifies the citrus without adding harshness. Best For Exploring authentic Polish lagers alongside friends familiar with the style Summer barbecues and outdoor grilling sessions where a light, cold lager is essential Pairing with hearty Central European dishes like pierogi or kielbasa Introducing someone to the European pale lager category beyond German and Czech examples Frequently Asked Questions What does Lech taste like? Lech is a malt-forward European pale lager with bittersweet grain character, subtle floral hop notes, and a dry, clean finish that emphasizes refreshment over complexity. How does Lech compare to Tyskie? Both are mainstream Polish pale lagers brewed under the Kompania Piwowarska umbrella, and they share a similar malt-driven profile; however, Lech leans slightly more toward a dry, cracker-like grain character while Tyskie is often described as marginally smoother on the palate. Is Lech good for casual drinking? Lech is squarely a session lager at 4.8% ABV with a light body, making it well-suited for relaxed, casual drinking over extended gatherings. Where is Lech made? Lech is brewed at the Lech Browary Wielkopolski brewery in Poznań, located in the Wielkopolska region of western Poland, by Kompania Piwowarska, a subsidiary of Asahi Group Holdings. What foods pair well with Lech? Grilled kielbasa benefits from the beer's dry bitterness cutting through the fat. Pierogi — particularly those filled with potato and cheese — complement the malty sweetness. Fried fish pairs well thanks to the crisp carbonation. Smoked meats echo the grain character, and mild cheeses like young Gouda match the beer's gentle flavor without overpowering it. What sizes does Lech come in? Lech is commonly available in the 500ml bottle format, which is standard for Polish lagers sold internationally. Is Lech worth the price? Lech positions as an everyday, entry-level European pale lager — it delivers a reliable, clean drinking experience consistent with its value tier and competes directly with other affordable Polish imports. Why Lech? What separates Lech from the broader field of European pale lagers is its use of a proprietary yeast strain developed exclusively for this beer, paired with two distinctly Polish hop varieties — Marynka and Lubelski — that give it a regional fingerprint absent from many competing imports. The brewery's access to Poland's largest French-technology malting plant ensures a consistent malt quality at scale. For drinkers looking beyond the usual Czech and German options, Lech represents a genuine taste of Wielkopolska's brewing tradition at an accessible price point.
