Gewurztraminer is an incredibly difficult grape to do well. It's low acidity needs to be paired with just the right balance of alcohol and residual sugar so as to not be perceived as flabby or dead. Legendary biodynamic producer Domaine Weinbach possess the exceptional skills required in spades. Their 'Les Treilles du Loup' ('The Wolf's Vines') is produced from 40 to 50 year old vines in the lieu-dit of Wolfreben, which sits in the adored Kayserberg valley. It is a wine that explodes out of the glass with gewurztraminer's classic rose and lychee, along with white tea and pink pepper.
