Lethrinops Red Cap Lethrinops sp. "Red Cap" (Itungi) Lethrinops Red Cap is a more peaceful Lake Malawi hap from sandy habitats, prized for its refined adult male color and natural sand-sifting style. It is best kept with calmer Malawi species that will not outcompete or bully it. Origin and Habitat Native Region: Itungi area at the extreme northern tip of Lake Malawi in Tanzania. Natural Habitat: Shallow sandy habitat near rocks. Physical Characteristics Size: 6-7 inches. Coloration: Sexually dimorphic; males develop stronger display color, while females and juveniles are more subdued. Body Shape: Slender, laterally compressed sand-associated hap body. Behavior and Temperament Temperament: Peaceful overall, though males can be aggressive toward conspecifics. Social Behavior: Best kept with calmer haps and peacocks, with enough open sand for natural behavior. Aquarium Care Tank Size: A 75 gallon aquarium or larger is recommended.
