Opening with the soft drones, sighing guitar and eye-widening melodies of "De-Hibernate" a Suicide-y drum machine moves the track towards whispered vocals and a ghostly reprise seeping into the hauntological tones of "Lyracal", where Andy Bell's (Ride) shimmering, echoing guitar lines drift over a droned backing of low electronic tones. "Does It Go Dark" has the feel of drifting through a dystopian city from a John Carpenter film with its wailing tones and lurking sense of apocalyptic dread. Part one of the title track opens with gentle waves and lightly throbbing synthesisers. It segues beautifully into "Saturation Point" which is a lovely throwback to classic Pye Corner Audio fare. The uplifting lilt to the chords and Andy Bell's reverberating, twanged guitar line gives it an electronic styled Angelo Badalamenti feel. The filmic vibe continues with "Sun Stroke" which has more of a psychey twist on a Vangelis sci-fi soundtrack. The subaquatic atmosphere of "Luminescence" captures the feeling of drifting underwater amongst the deepest lurking bio-luminescent denizens of that murky and mysterious locale until we re-emerge into the solar-saturated and ecstatically effervescent high point of this collection "Warmth Of The Sun". A hypnotic arpeggiator bubbles behind a breathy wordless chant before the shoegazey guitar line glistens over the top as robotic vocals herald in the gloriously understated drum machine back beat to create an iridescent soundscape of blissful sunbleached tones.
