People really do judge a book by its cover. The cover art for a book is its introduction. This cover art expresses the emotion of the moment through movement and color. I painted t his cover art for the fantasy book Ley Lines written by Lisa Lowell. Of course, any type of illustration is available. I worked in detail with Lisa to create the feeling that would give readers a glimpse into the action of the book. We talked in detail about the style of the characters and the action moment it depicts. I do various styles of illustrations in oils or watercolor depending on the style of the art commissioned then I manipulate it in photoshop.
