I am a Lighthouse (2025). I stand watch, tall and steady, waiting for what drifts near. Curator's Notes Each exhibition, Mitani creates a few sculptural works that sit somewhere between object and artwork. Lighthouse (2025) is one of them, a form that feels almost discovered rather than made, like an antique toy found on a long walk through an old European market. Mitani once said that he’s drawn to the image of boats and lighthouses because they connect one end to another, one person to another. There’s something deeply human in that idea: an object that stands, signals, and waits — a small beacon carved from the warmth of wood.
