These generously sized kitchen towels are woven with Aurora Earth 8/2 Cotton, a versatile cotton that is wonderful for weaving absorbent, everyday towels. The threading for this design is based on birdseye, a traditional weave structure that has been used by weavers for generations. Classic birdseye is usually woven as a point twill, often using the same color in both the warp and weft. This version takes birdseye in a different direction. Multiple colors and an unusual treadling sequence connect the individual birdseye motifs into linked, chain-like shapes. The result is a pattern that feels both familiar and modern, with a geometric quality that almost resembles a stream of data or lines of code. It's an interesting example of how a traditional weave structure can be reworked to create something completely new.
