It is a vegan, mineral oil-free, and hydrogenated polyisobutene-based gel. The exact INCI ingredient list for this base is: Hydrogenated Polyisobutene (the emollient base) Ethylene/Propylene/Styrene Copolymer (gelling agent) Butylene/Ethylene/Styrene Copolymer (gelling agent) Pentaerythrityl Tetra-di-t-butyl Hydroxyhydrocinnamate (an antioxidant used to maintain stability) Aroma: None Colour: Uncoloured - clear base easily coloured with oil soluble colours. (We offer the colours also in other listings). Colouring: Make a dilute solution of oil soluble food colours in Jojoba oil. Try 1 to 5 drops of dilute colours to 100gm of Balm. Customisations: Take the desired amount of Balm base and add active ingredients, flavour oils and/or colour to suit your particular purpose and mix. Mica: Add up to 5% mica for a lip tint or shine. Essential oils and fragrances: Any oils may cause lip irritation. There are some essential oils that are suitable for lip balms (citrus, lavender, mint, Eucalyptus, tea tree, Rose geranium) but others that are less so (herbs and spices typically). Please thoroughly investigate the skin suitability for more specific advice on the safe doses before adding essential oils to your formula. Fragrances are generally not used in lip balms due to them not being formulated for that purpose. Instead, flavours can be purchased and added. We offer both water based and oil based flavours, for lip balms you will need the oil based variety. Oil Soluble Actives: Oil Soluble vitamin C, Vitamin F blend, Alpha Lipoic Acid (antioxidant) could be considered for an anti-ageing or restorative lip balm. Improving the balm after-taste: 0.05-0.2% of Stevia Powder can be mixed through the lip balm base to disguise the oily after-taste that ingestion of the balm leaves in the mouth. Stevia is a naturally derived sugar alternative and while it is water soluble, small amounts can be dispersed through a lip balm base with little trouble. We recommend you grinding this to a very fine powder to avoid unpleasant grittiness in the finished product. Adding sweetener to your lip base will also have a curious effect of requiring less of the flavour oil to bring out the flavour(s). Sweetening: To sweeten Versagel, add liquid sweeteners like flavor concentrates or liquid sugar sweeteners designed for cosmetic use after heating the base and mixing with oils. You can also disperse a very fine-milled powder sweetener, such as stevia, into the formula, though it's crucial to ensure it's fine enough to avoid a gritty texture. Using Liquid Sweeteners 1. Prepare the Base: Start by combining Versagel with oils in a microwave-safe bowl. 2. Heat the Mixture:Gently heat the mixture in the microwave for short intervals, stirring to combine the oils and achieve a smooth consistency. 3. Add Sweetener:Remove from heat and stir in a few drops of a liquid flavoring and sweetener concentrate. Popular options include fruit or vanilla flavors. 4. Mix Well:Continue stirring until the sweetener is completely mixed into the lip gloss base. 5.
