You will find dozens of details hidden in each of my paintings, but I always add a couple that mean something special to just me and my roots. Looking at an old photograph of my gr andfather when he served our country in WWII, I was inspired to add a few details to this piece. The war sent him to both islands of Saipan and Tinian. While on Tinian, he was shot directly through the front center of his helmet. The bullet ricocheted and exited through the side. Sparing his life. That helmet still stands tall on display at my parent’s home. It reminds me of God’s grace and how our family tree would have been drastically different without His mercy and that helmet.
