I resolved those issues by having custom hinges made for the piece.This piece has been a finalist in three design competitions, one of those global. As a set of three this piece offers the versatility of being a useful side table. Individually, the smaller version makes for a good sized side table next to the lounge. The taller version has been used as a table with the smaller version acting as a seat. The taller version also works well as a minimalist bedside table.
