Lochlea Distillery has unveiled a new, bold character for its core lineup: "Dark Briar." This an exploration of deep, indulgent flavours, inspired by the success of their Fallow Edition. The maturation is a complex journey through Pedro Ximénez, Oloroso sherry butts, and Port casks. The result is a whisky that's layered with rich, juicy red fruits, the comforting warmth of ginger cake, and a velvety, spicy finish. Right from the pour, the nose is captivating, a sweet and rich medley of red berries, candy shop treats, and a hint of vanilla caramel, all balanced by a touch of fresh baking spices. The first taste is a big, juicy mouthful of cherries and sweet, sticky plums that give way to a gentle, warming tannin and the spicy kick of ginger cake. The experience concludes with a long, satisfying finish, leaving behind a memorable presence of those smooth tannins and a comforting spiced warmth. Bottled at 46% ABV, non-chill filtered, and natural colour. Dark Briar is an honest and flavorful representation of Lochlea's craft, an essential addition for anyone who appreciates a rich, fruit-forward dram with a bit of a spicy edge.
