The lockplate (SKU: 277311) is a retaining component used in the axle and braking system assemblies of Series Land Rovers, functioning to secure fasteners - typically bearing retaining nuts or back plate bolts - against loosening under vibration and load. Without a serviceable lockplate, critical fasteners can back off, leading to bearing failure, brake back plate movement, or axle component separation. Replacement is necessary whenever the lockplate has been bent during a previous service, as re-bending a fatigued plate reduces its clamping reliability. Key Features Pressed steel construction designed to tab over fastener flats and prevent rotation Applicable to back plate-to-axle securing points in the rear braking and axle assembly Manufactured to original specification dimensions for correct tab engagement Lockplates should be replaced as a matter of course during any axle strip-down - inspect the mating fasteners for wear simultaneously Vehicle Fitment This lockplate fits Land Rover Series 2, 2A, and Series 3 vehicles across axle, suspension, and braking system applications, including back plate to axle securing positions.
