Normal Magnetite is attracted to a magnet, but special Magnetite called Lodestone is actually magnetic itself and can attract other small magnetic objects. According to Greek legend, Magnetite was discovered by a wandering shepherd named Magnes who has his metal tipped cane become attracted to some mysterious black stones as if by magic.
