Housed within historic almshouses in East London, the museum examines how domestic life has evolved over the past four centuries through period interiors, everyday objects and contemporary displays. Through exhibitions, collections and public programmes, the museum invites visitors to consider how homes reflect changing ideas about family, identity, work, technology and community. Step behind the scenes and discover rarely seen treasures from the Museum’s Collections Store. Get up close to fascinating objects, including our beautifully embroidered Bayeux-inspired textile panel, and uncover the stories, skilled craftsmanship and communities that have shaped our textile heritage. Whether you’re passionate about textiles, love local history, or are simply looking for something different to do, drop in for this free, informal session. Meet our friendly team, ask questions, and enjoy the chance to experience remarkable objects that are not usually on display. Suitable for all ages. Object encounter sessions are free to drop in. Due to the delicate nature of our collections, the library space is limited to 10 people at a time, and there may be a small queue during busy periods.
