The brow, muzzle and ruff are built from interlocking teardrops, leaf shapes and curling scrollwork, the tribal and zentangle habit of filling an animal with pattern until the pattern carries the likeness. It is one head, facing straight out, drawn in a single flat black so every shape stays crisp. The wall itself supplies the space between the lines, and the ears and the ragged lower edge of the ruff read as cut points against the paint. The wolf that leaves home A lone wolf is seldom solitary by temperament. Most are dispersers: young adults, roughly one to three years old, that leave the pack they were born into and go looking for unclaimed ground and a mate. Some settle a valley away. Others cross hundreds of kilometres of forest, mountain and farmland before they stop, and researchers have followed several of those journeys by collar for months at a time.
