Our Icelandic sheepskin throws/rugs are from a robust sheep breed that is free to roam wild. The wool's unusual character is the result of centuries of adaptation to the harsh Icelandic climate. The long hair protects the sheep's skin from moisture while the short hair keeps the animal warm. The skins are chosen carefully and are treated carefully throughout the tanning process, retaining the skin's natural properties. No artificial colours or detrimental chemicals are used during the tanning process, which makes the throws both allergy-free and environmentally friendly. Sheepskins provide warmth, and wherever you place them; they provide an attractive Nordic look. These throws were the accessory of choice for modernist architects and designers in the 1950's. Today they are perfect for creating the mid-century look in your home draped on a chair, on the sofa or as a rug on the floor.
