The Kohala Longan is the undisputed king of its kind, revered for producing the largest, sweetest, and most luxurious fruit in the longan family. This magnificent evergreen tree offers not just beauty with its dense, glossy canopy, but also a remarkably heavy and reliable harvest of grape-sized gems. Each thin, brown shell cracks easily to reveal a thick, succulent, snow-white aril that is incredibly sweet, juicy, and floral, with a minimal seed. For a taste of tropical indulgence and a highly productive shade tree, Kohala stands as the premier choice. Universally acclaimed as the best commercial and home garden variety, known for its superior fruit size, sweetness, and yield. Produces very large, round fruit with a thin, brittle brown shell that is easy to peel. The aril (flesh) is exceptionally thick, crisp, juicy, and sweet with a distinct floral, muscat-like flavor and a very small seed. A vigorous, self-pollinating evergreen tree that bears heavy, reliable crops once established. Can grow large (30-40 ft) but is readily maintained at a manageable height (10-15 ft) with annual pruning after harvest. Requires a warm, subtropical to tropical climate and full sun for optimal fruiting. Flavor Profile: Flavor: Intensely sweet and aromatic with rich honey and floral notes, far surpassing common longan varieties. Texture: Crisp, incredibly juicy, and gelatinous—like a perfect lychee but with a more substantial bite. Best Uses: The ultimate fresh-eating longan, best enjoyed straight from the shell. Also excellent in fruit salads, desserts, cocktails, or dried.
