Upper Hambleton looking across Rutland Water, grey, winter’s day. The road along from Hambleton village allowed glimpses of Rutland Water below, the fields, woodland and far shore. The height of the road meant that the view was divided into sections of land, water, far shore and then sky. The detail of the foreground was contrasted with the calm water and then some more detail and then calm again in the clouds. The winter’s day allowed this repeated pattern to be emphasised generally and specifically with the hedges in the foreground and shoreline in the distance, both dark, yet detailed. Show more
