A lovely, fresh and attractive example of the posthumous colour proof of the 6d green Prince Edward Island Pence issue that was produced in the UK during World War II to raise mone y for the Red Cross. According to notes made by famed Winnipeg dealer Kasimir Bileski, the Royal Philatelic Society of London had possession of all the plates and dies for all values of this series except for the 6d, which was not discovered until the early 1940's. It is not clear who made the decision, but a decision was made to put the die to good use and print a series of raised die proofs on card, in different colours and to sell these to collectors to raise money for the Red Cross. A gift of 2 pounds entitled a collector to 1 proof. 10 different colours were printed and this one is the black brown. This is beautifully printed on quality card, which is free from any blemishes, and the design is slightly raised.
