First, the larger clamp opening of 19mm allows for clamping over larger ground cables and some of the multiple ground cable systems. Many re-sellers and end users have requested the larger clamp size over the past 7 or 8 years, so we were able to accomplish this, while still keeping the required 1mA low resolution for battery drain testing. Second, we improved the zero stability over existing Model 687 - another request from the field. Other notable improvements over 687 include: double injection housing (much higher quality housing), greater DMM functions/features like analog bargraph and min/max. This product incorporates many requested improvements and feedback that we've received from voice of the customer.
