Origin: Peru, Ecuador and Chile. Growth Habit: Evergreen fruit tree reaching approximately 6–15 metres at maturity. Suitable for home gardens, orchards and large containers when young. Climate: Lucuma grows well in warmer North Island gardens with frost protection. In the South Island, a greenhouse or warm, sheltered container position is recommended. Germination: Sow fresh seeds with the pointed end facing down and the top of the seed just exposed above the soil surface. Keep warm (20–28°C) and consistently moist but not waterlogged. Germination typically occurs within 3–8 weeks. Fruit: Produces round to oval green fruit with dry, golden-yellow flesh.
