About- Sponges form within these vigorous and easy-to-grow gourds. Their vines can can reach up to 15 feet! Harvest them at 2" for a fun, cucumber-like snack! They make great non-a brasive kitchen scrubs and bath sponges. When and Where to Plant- Direct sow 2/3 seeds per space / hill once soil temps have reached 70ºF. Prefers rich, loose, well-drained soils. Care and Harvest- Water well 1-2 times per week. Provide fertilizer based on soil test. To eat fresh, harvest when fruit is 2" long. For sponges, allow the fruit to stay on the vine until the skin turns brown, drying and shriveling. Remove the fruit and gently rub the skin away. Shake out the seeds. The sponge can be placed in the sun to naturally bleach it to the desired color. Use and enjoy!
