LG4A is a leaded gunmetal alloy renowned for its excellent machining properties, medium strength, and superior resistance to corrosion. It is widely used in marine environments and engineering applications, particularly for components such as pump and valve parts, as well as for bearings under light loads at low to medium speeds with adequate lubrication. Features: Outstanding machinability, making it suitable for precision-engineered parts. Medium mechanical strength, supporting reliable performance in demanding applications. Excellent pressure tightness, ideal for hydraulic and fluid-handling systems. Not subject to dezincification, ensuring durability in harsh conditions including seawater and brine. Robust corrosion resistance, especially effective in marine and saline environments. Good suitability for bearings with light loads and low/medium speeds when properly lubricated. Manufactured using precise continuous casting technology for consistent quality. Composition tightly controlled to conform to international standards for leaded gunmetal alloys. Specifications: Chemical composition (nominal): Tin (Sn) 6.0–8.0%, Lead (Pb) 2.5–3.5%, Zinc (Zn) 1.5–3.0%, Copper (Cu) balance, with minor allowable amounts of Nickel, Iron, Aluminium, Antimony, and total impurities (0.70% max). Mechanical properties: 0.2% Proof Stress: 130 MPa (minimum) Ultimate Tensile Strength: 300 MPa (minimum) Elongation: 13% (minimum) Typical Hardness: 80 Brinell (BHN) Specific Gravity: 8.8 Maximum Operating Temperature: 230°C (450°F) Stress Relieving Temperature: 260°C (500°F); 1 hour per 25 mm section thickness. Standards: Conforms to BS 1400-1985 alloy LG4; also listed as BS EN 1982 CuSn7Zn2Pb3, AS1565 C92410A.
